Will Beckley Elementary School in Las Vegas was in for a ‘ride’ of their life today as professional BMX rider Ricardo Laguna paid a visit to over 800 students to simply wish them luck on their high stakes test that they are taking beginning April 13th . Nevada requires all students to take the CRT (Criterion Reference Test) which determine whether a school is meeting state standards. Will Beckley is on a winning streak and has improved their test scores in the last year, however still has not made the state’s goal. “We have made drastic changes,” says Jeanne Plese, principal of Beckley, “but as our population has been evolving our school is now 70% Hispanic. They need a role model. They need to believe in themselves in order to succeed.” That’s where Ricardo stepped up to the plate. Hearing about the school and its push to drive the students, Ricardo came to the school and visited every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom to wish them luck on the test. Rooms were silent as Ricardo commanded the audiences and spent over four hours meeting students, speaking of past struggles coming from Mexico, his successes, and how he is now living his dream. April Paine, the school’s librarian; “It has increased their desire to learn. They now have someone to learn about that they have actually met, and someone to relate to who has made it. They want to read about him on his website. They want to check out books about his life because his story is so close to their life.” Only time will tell if these students will pass the test, and Ricardo has promised to return to the school and celebrate with those who do; but for many, today, a whole new world opened in front of our youth, as they met someone who inspired them to be better than they ever imagined they could be. Thank you, Ricardo! Will Beckley teachers, staff, and students love you. Story by Becky Davis

Extremething 2010
March 27th penciled out to be a day of Madness! The event topped out to be the best Extremething out of the fifteen previous years. It was a sold out event with over 20,000 people crashing the party! Once again riders from all over the world came out hungry to tackle the course and possibly take home the five thousand dollar prize. Luke Parslow..."from down under" Australia....is showing that all his hard work is paying off. Riders faced tough winds, but that didn't stop Luke from taking first place. Dennis Anderson followed with his second place win and Cory "NASTY" Nastazio coming in third. While riders where hitting the jumps, I was busy hosting the event, filming a upcoming television show for American Latino that airs on CBS, ABC, CW, FOX, NBC and MY TV....plus making sure the event was running smoothly. I can not thank enough Trish and her staff with the Athlete Recovery Fund...for all their help keeping the riders safe and have medics on hand. The event again was a major success with nearly thirty bands taking the stage, wrestlers entertaining the crowd, skaters doing their thing, and roller derby chicks hitting the pavement. The AM JAM did a great job bringing in a ton of new riders that will hopefully compete in the Ricardo Laguna Pro BMX dirt Challenge in the future.

Who would have thought that riding my bike would ever become my livelihood...let alone gracing the cover of such a popular mainstream magazine in Vegas!
I was super excited to see that I made the cover of Las Vegas Magazine that over 750,000 people read. Every hotel room on the Las Vegas strip gets a copy. And you know what that means... a lot of people will be checking out my silly sally face. JAAAAA! Jay Z and his 40 million albums along with Lionel Richie also joined me...making the headlines, but it was this kid...with the helmet that stole the spotlight.

As most of you know by now the rain has been coming down, but that has not slowed me down! The pictures show the damage done...but all this hard work is paying off. Even though the drops are coming... were digging, making ever transfer line run.

I got the privilege to judge the Red Bull Am Jam event at Bunker Skate park and see some of the new amateurs in the BMX world. I also got to showcase my partner in crime Dylan who entered his first contest ever in the expert class and got second place.

I had a great opportunity that I could not pass up! I went from drifting a buggy at the speedway to smashing through Las Vegas' sand dunes with Extreme Amy from Fox 5. While I was covered in dirt... that was nothing out of the ordinary for a dirt jumper. Thanks to Sun Buggy Fun Rentals in Vegas for making this happen. If you have a chance to experience this rush...I highly recommend it.

Last night I was invited to an event that I would have never thought I would get the opportunity to go. From digging all day and riding on the dirt jumps... to hanging out with the sports illustrated girls...like Brooklyn Decker at JET and VANITY. The entourage got a five course meal tonight. And I don't mean appetizers, dinner and dessert. Well maybe the dessert part is right. JAAAA!!!!

Vegas is known for one thing.... gambling and let me tell you I love to double down....and if you challenge me to a bet... know you have a greater chance at loosing. Dylan...one of the many Ricardo Laguna staff members should have taken insurance as a black jack table would. Lets just say he lost the bet.... and the tattoo speaks for itself.

From the looks of it... we do not follow schedules. Our goal was to go to Woodward and and have my good friend Stitch attempt to do a back flip in the foam pit. He made it an eight hour mission that was not conquered... and we missed our opportunity to race golf karts at pole position race way. We still made it and got to watch the tail end.

Think First was so gracious to sponsor us to come out to Land Rover in Las Vegas to put on a show for those looking to see some high flying action. I was joined by Gary Showtime Laurent and Mark Rubio. We got to perform for several hundred kids and each one of them got to go home with free helmets to protect these future bmx'ers noggins! Action Sports United helped to promote bike safety. All in all.... fun times.
